One of the blessings of being an Episcopalian is the constant reminder that you are part of something so much larger than your home parish, a daily reminder of what it means to be part of the Body of Christ. Here at St. Stephen's, we nurture and enjoy our relationships with other people of faith in a number of different ways.
The Episcopal Diocese of Newark is 96 congregations and four affiliated worshipping communities in North Jersey. Our Bishop is The Rt. Rev. Carlye J. Hughes. As a parish of the Diocese of Newark, we elect three DELEGATES and up to three ALTERNATES to the annual Diocesan Convention, which is the governing body of the diocese. Beyond the convention delegation, there are other opportunities to serve on committees, task forces, and commissions, as well as to participate in worship, formation, and fellowship together. The Diocese of Newark is part of The Episcopal Church, which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
St. Stephen's is part of the Evelyn Underhill Regional Ministry Network. This group of five parishes gathers to worship, for fellowship, and to offer online and in-person educational forums and prayer throughout the year. Many of the gatherings include participation from members of the member congregations.
The Coalition of Religious Leaders of Millburn & Short Hills is a group of faith leaders, lay and clergy, who gather throughout the year to learn from and support each other, and to engage with the wider community on issues that are rooted in our shared values. At least once a year, usually in the fall or winter, we gather for prayer and music.
